Do you like Radicchio?

Radicchio is sometimes known as Italian chicory. It is grown as a lead vegetable which usually has white-veined red leaves. It has a bitter and spicy taste, which mellows when it is grilled or roasted. It can also be used to add color and zest to salads.

For November's Taste & Create challenge, I was paired up with the blog In My Box and found this simple but, new and curious recipe for Radicchio with Balsamic Vinegar. I say curious because she spoke so highly of radicchio and how much she loved it so very much, I thought, "I have to try this!" I had never tried Radicchio. What a perfect time to try radicchio! :)
I really do like trying new things whether I end up puting them on my "favourites" list or not, at least I have tried one more thing in the world. Right?

What did I think of Radicchio? Ummm...didn't like it. Sorry, *shrug*
My husband asked if it was poisinous because of it's harshly bitter taste and he wouldn't go past the first bite. Haha!
Now, I am not judging anyone who adores this and the more I ate the more I got used to the taste but, still. No thanks on the radicchio. It's OK if you like it, I am by no means condemning. This is a wonderful and delicious recipe if you like radicchio.

So, this is a shout-out-recipe to all those Radicchio lovers out there.
ENJOY on my behalf.

-Rinse Radicchio
-Cut Radicchio in half lengthwise and then cut each half in half again.

-Heat 2 tbs. extra virgin olive oil in a pan and add radicchio.
-Use tongs to turn and sautee in oil until wilted.
-Add freshly ground salt and pepper.

-Transfer to a serving plate and drizzle 2 tbs balsamic vinegar, 1 tbs red wine, and a teeny bit more olive oil and salt and pepper to your liking.

-Serve as a side dish.

THE END!
I wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Maybe you might like it as part of a dish instead of all on its own?

Oh man! Now I feel double guilty...

It's been such a crazy month with Thanksgiving and more Thanksgiving that I haven't had the time to try any other new recipes that weren't intended for the T-day table.

I will get a post up for T&C as soon as I get my house in order again! Sorry...

P.S. Sorry you didn't like the radicchio, but at least you gave it a try!

I'm like you Ivy. I've never had radicchio either, except where little pieces are included in my salad mix. Your recipe sounds nice and I think it's great you tried it. Thanks for sharing!

Oh! Johnny and I went to a fancy (overpriced) french restaurant and I ordered a salad and asked them to substitute radicchio for arrugula. I thought radicchio was a salad green. They brought the salad to me and it was awful, so I asked my waitress to take it back and got soup instead. After I sent it back, this imposing, red-faced, ANGRY french woman came out and made a huge loud fuss about the returned salad. I didn't understand why, until the end of the meal when they included the salad on our bill. After a lot of work, Johnny was able to talk to the co-owner of the restaurant (the angry french woman was the other owner), and get the salad removed from our bill, but I will be happy to never eat radicchio again OR go to La Poubelle on Franklin in Hollywood!
